How to make UPI payments through GPay using your credit card

May 14, 2023

By Divya Bhati: The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has become increasingly popular in India in recent years. It offers a convenient and secure way to make payments for goods and services. There are many popular payment gateways available and Google Pay is one of them. It allows users to make UPI payments using their bank account, debit card and now even from select credit cards.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) initially allowed users to make UPI payments using their bank accounts. However, it has recently collaborated with Google Pay and enabled integration of RuPay credit cards with UPI. This integration allows users to make payments using their credit card, just by scanning the merchant's QR code, without having to carry their card with them anywhere.

RuPay has announced that this feature is now accessible to all RuPay credit card holders from prominent banks such as Axis Bank, Indian Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Union Bank of India. Additionally, RuPay has assured customers that more banks will soon follow suit in implementing this new initiative.

So, if you have a RuPay credit card from one of the mentioned banks, you can now link it to Google Pay to make payments. Here is how to make UPI payments through GPay using your credit card.

Step 1: Add the RuPay Credit Card in your Gpay account.

Step 2: Activate and use the RuPay Credit Card on UPI

Notably, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowed the linking of RuPay credit cards to the UPI platform in June 2022. This initiative is a step toward accessing the convenience of digital payments.
