Soap Dispenser's Hilarious Warranty Card Goes Viral: 'We Warned You'
A photo of an automatic soap dispenser's "brilliant" warranty card has gone viral and left online commenters in stitches.
The photo was posted in Reddit's "Funny" forum by u/thelightningthief, who wrote: "My mother ordered a soap dispenser from Amazon, and THIS was the warranty information." It has garnered over 65,000 upvotes and nearly 2,000 comments from Redditors who said the warranty was the best they'd ever seen. You can view the photo here.
"THINGS TO VOID YOUR WARRANTY. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE USE," read the top of the warranty card in large, red font.
"YES, YOU! YOU COULD VOID YOUR WARRANTY. OK, WE WARNED YOU!"
The warranty card stressed that the "sophisticated electronic device" could not get wet.
"Yes, it's a soap dispenser, but if you get water into the battery department, it will be 'no bueno' as some people might say...DO NOT WASH WITH WATER," the warranty warned. "I know you are not an IDIOOOOOT, but I have to say this...DO NOT PUT THIS ITEM IN THE DISHWASHER EITHER."
Per the warranty card, product owners should clean the dispenser with surface cleaner and a dry microfiber cloth. If properly handled, the dispenser should last "at least a year or more."
"Keep this puppy DRY, OK? Please?" the warranty card asked.
Considering the amount of care the automatic soap dispenser requires, several commenters didn't understand the point of buying one.
"Is soap dispensing something that really needs to be automated and/or motorized?" u/Jammb asked.
But as it turns out, soap dispensers are "very, very dirty," according to cleaning expert Jolie Kerr.
"It's my job to tell you what it is, exactly, that's making the top of the soap dispensers so dirty. It's poop, you guys," Kerr wrote in an article for Esquire which did not refer to automatic dispensers.
"More troubling, over in the kitchen, [you] might be poisoning yourself and your loved ones with your soap dispenser. Every time you handle raw chicken, and then go to wash your hands of all that raw [chicken] bacteria, you hit the top of the dispenser and leave raw [chicken] bacteria behind," Kerr continued.
Rolling Stone also said the soap dispenser could be the "dirtiest thing in your kitchen."
"After all, it's the last thing you touch when your hands need a wash," the magazine said.
Automatic soap dispensers have become increasingly popular since the start of the pandemic. According to a 2021 press release from Aritzon, the automatic soap dispenser market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 12.6 percent between 2020 and 2026.
"[The] COVID-19 pandemic positively impacted the automatic soap dispenser market. Many public assembly points were installed with automatic soap dispensers. Especially in airports, railway stations, hospital entrances, and more. This largely increased the demand for the automatic soap dispenser usage," Aritzon said.
Of course, many Redditors weren't hung up on the fact that the soap dispenser was automatic because they couldn't get past how "brilliant" the warranty card was.
"Honestly, probably the best warranty card I've ever seen," u/PedanticPeasantry said.
u/ratolloko rated the warranty a "10/10."
"Short, straight, no BS [and a] solid sense of humor," they wrote.
"This is how all warranty documents should be written. No fine print, no BS," u/GREYDRAGON1 commented.
u/Embarrassed_Road3811 said the warranty was "gold." Meanwhile, u/charlybrown48 called it "brilliant."
However, some skeptics thought the warranty was too outrageous to be true.
"The 'no bueno' line makes me think this is fake," u/GenerationalChaos admitted.
"Ah, this ain't real," u/SnooChickens6278 agreed.
